A Look through Stepney History

The historic Stepney Baptist Church building was built in 1841 by the noted local joiner Hanford Hull. It was made of rough hewn timber before electricity, telephones, cars, much less the world wide web.

This church community was borne out of a spiritual awakening that took place throughout the region, and in particular, over at the Easton Baptist Church. Easton Baptist planted this church in response to the great number of souls coming to Christ from these parts. For the first few years the pastor would ride back and forth on horseback between the two churches to bring God’s word to both groups of people. By 1848 Stepney was incorporated as its own church, and has remained in its original building ever since.

We are praying for another move of God in our times; that God would stir up many hearts for Himself.

If you’re searching for a place to put down spiritual roots, Stepney may be a good fit for you. There’s something very warming about knowing the people on either side of you as you worship.

Please come and visit any Sunday at 10:00.  You never know, this may be the church family you’ve always wanted.
